Kimchi!

And at my dental cleaning, the hygienist actually scrawls “study in Korea” in the top margin of my medical history form, says “Do you like my Korean calendar?”  A family friend, one Cornelius Chang, commissions a Korean impressionist painter to put out a church calendar.  “They’re not always the same,” she’s explaining as she gets it down off it’s nail to show me, “some year’s it’s holy places or other things.”

I flip through it while she processes my x-ray films and read –something about living again, something about love for the children.  The first picture is the baby Jesus cradled in Mary’s arms, looking at the painter off-easel, as it were, and giving the peace sign.
