Saturday night, over soju and galbi

I tell the story about the host-grandmum sticking my thumbs with needles when I had a stomachache because releasing my black blood should cure me.

Korean man: “Did it work?”

Me: “No.  But I lied and said that it did.”

He says that if he is really sick, well, of course he would see his doctor.  But if he is only a little sick, then maybe he would use Korean traditional medicine.  I say, if I am only a little sick I do nothing.

Korean man: “Nothing?”

Me: “I do nothing.  I wait for it to pass.”

Korean man: “Well that’s just,” he pauses, searching for the word: “stupid!”
